Professional Experience:
I have been a police officer in South Kingstown, Rhode Island for nearly 21 years, currently serving as the deputy chief of police. I started my career in the patrol division, where I served as a field training officer, accident reconstructionist and a member of the special weapons and tactics team. Early in my career, I was promoted to the detective bureau, where I served 11 years as an investigator and participated in local, state and federal task forces, culminating in my promotion to the rank of lieutenant serving as the detective commander of my agency. I also served as a first line patrol supervisor and patrol commander of my agency as the captain of operations. I currently command the department’s sworn and civilian personnel, overseeing the daily operations and assuming control of the department in the absence of the chief of police.
I have been fortunate to meet, interact with and serve a diverse group of people through my professional experiences. I am immersed in the community I serve and I have been able to translate the experiences and the lessons I have learned into the classroom and beyond.
In addition to my breadth of experience as a police officer, I have served as an adjunct professor at the New England Institute of Technology, teaching in all disciplines of criminal justice for the past eight years.
Personal Statement:
I have served as a mentor or teacher most of my adult life, with a devotion to service. During my undergraduate years at Salve Regina, I tutored juveniles at the R.I. Juvenile Detention Facility, preparing them for the general education test. Early in my career as a police officer, I continued to mentor and teach by guiding and imparting my knowledge through formal and informal means.
I have a passion for learning, teaching, mentoring and collaborating in a team setting to learn, grow and accomplish goals in an inclusive manner. I have been fortunate to continue my passion for learning and teaching through my personal and professional experiences. I am excited to be back at Salve Regina to continue on my lifelong journey of service through mentoring and teaching.
