Research Interests:
My research centers on the Cold War, particularly the ways in which the Cold War affected international sport, both on and off the playing fields. In my fist book, I argued that the Cold War’s impact on the Olympics from 1948-1968 was ultimately positive, as it gave the Games added relevance and increased attention from both spectators and the media. Currently, I am writing a book on the ways in which Eastern European cultural groups based in the United States used the Olympics to draw attention to Soviet oppression of various ethnic and religious groups during the late Cold War, 1976-1991.
