Room Assignments and Selection
Residence Life
Room Assignments for First-Year Students
For first-year students, the room assignment process begins with an online housing application, which provides the Office of Residence Life with the information necessary to assign students a roommate and residence hall room.
Housing applications are available in the My Housing portal from mid-May through July 1. After July 1, room and roommate requests are processed. Please note that roommate requests are only granted when all students requesting roommates have indicated the option on their respective applications.
In mid-July, students receive email notification that their room assignment and roommate information is available through My Housing.
Room Selection for Sophomores
Sophomores are required to live on campus and housing is guaranteed. Room selection takes place in late April, with information sessions and open houses occurring throughout the month. Room selection times are distributed at random, giving equal access to space for all students.
Students in the Pell Honors Program have the option to live in Pell housing during their sophomore year. By living with fellow Pell Scholars, students have a unique opportunity to form meaningful, long-lasting relationships centered on a shared pursuit of understanding. Registration for Pell housing begins in February. Pell Scholars who choose to live in traditional sophomore housing participate in sophomore room selection in April.
Living Learning Communities for Sophomores
Our living learning communities integrate curricular and co-curricular experiences through a shared living experience. These communities affirm a strong commitment to experiential learning and developing students who lead responsible lives. Participants strive to meet the University mission of working for a world that is harmonious, just and merciful.
- Language House: Provides a French or Spanish immersion experience, offering an excellent opportunity for students to hone their language skills and learn about other cultures. Fulbright foreign language teaching assistants facilitate this living learning community, and residents engage in activities such as movie nights and language tables. Students of all ability levels are welcome to apply.
- Multicultural House: Provides an inclusive experience dedicated to promoting the understanding of differences and celebrating diversity. By connecting educational and residential environments, students interact with faculty, staff and peers in a practical learning environment outside of the traditional classroom context.
Room Selection for Juniors and Seniors
Housing for juniors and seniors is not required and therefore not guaranteed. On-campus housing options include apartments and ranch houses. Students who wish to live on campus submit a housing registration form through My Housing, and room selection is held in late February. Juniors and seniors with housing questions should contact their area coordinator, resident advisor or the Office of Residence Life.
