Paid Leave Benefits

Full-time, non-academic year staff members enjoy the following paid time off per year: 11 holidays, one floating holiday, two+ president's days, two personal days, up to 12 sick days and liberal time for vacation.

Paid Parental Leave

Eligible employees may receive six weeks of paid parental leave for the birth or adoption of a child.

Health Care

Harvard Pilgrim HealthCare

Employees regularly working a minimum of 30 hours per week are eligible for a comprehensive health care plan. Staff and faculty are eligible on the first day of the month following the date of hire. Employees may elect individual, individual-plus-one or family coverage. The cost is a fixed amount determined annually by the University.

Dental

Delta Dental of Rhode Island

Eligibility is the same as health care and individual, individual-plus-one or family coverage is available. The cost is a fixed amount determined annually by the University.

Vision

DeltaVision

Employees working a minimum of 20 hours per week may purchase, on a pre-tax basis, vision insurance coverage administered through Delta Dental of Rhode Island's DeltaVision alliance. Employees can enjoy the network and benefits of VSP with the convenience of administration by Delta Dental of Rhode Island. Employees are eligible on the first day of the month following the date of hire.

Group Life

The Standard

After a three-month waiting period, employees working a minimum of 30 hours per week are provided with insurance coverage equal to $50,000 (reduced to 65 percent at age 65 and 50 percent at age 70). Optional supplemental and dependent life plans are also available.

Long-Term Disability

The Standard

After a one-year waiting period, employees working a minimum of 30 hours per week are provided disability coverage equal to 60 percent of covered monthly salary, up to a maximum of $10,000 per month.

Retirement Plan

TIAA

After a one-year waiting period, employees working a minimum of 1,000 hours per year are eligible for a 403(b) plan through TIAA. The University contributes 7% of an employee’s base compensation to the plan. In addition, eligible employees who contribute at least 1% receive an additional 1% employer matching contribution.

Supplemental Retirement Plan

TIAA

Available to employees working a minimum of 1,000 hours per year, this plan allows for employees to make their own voluntary pre-tax contributions or after-tax, Roth contributions to a retirement plan. New employees hired on or after Jan. 1, 2024, will automatically be enrolled in the retirement plan at 3% of their salary as of the first of the month following or coinciding with 90 days of employment. Employees have 90 days from their date of hire to enroll themselves at another percent or to opt out. If you are automatically enrolled:

  • Your contributions will be invested in the target date fund closest to your projected date of retirement,
  • Your beneficiary will be set to “Estate,”
  • Your contributions will increase by 1% on February 1 each year until a maximum contribution rate of 10% is reached.

Adoption Assistance

Eligible employees may be reimbursed up to $3,000 in qualified expenses associated with the cost of adoption after the adoption is finalized.

Tuition Benefits

After a three-month waiting period, full- and part-time employees who work at least 1,000 hours per calendar year are eligible for tuition benefits (two courses during the fall and spring semesters and two courses during the summer). After two years of continuous employment of at least 1,000 hours per year, a 50% tuition benefit may be applied to costs of undergraduate courses for a dependent qualifying child or for a spouse. The benefit increases to 100% after three years of continuous employment of at least 1,000 hours per year.

Tuition Exchange Program

The program allows qualified dependents of staff and faculty members with three years of full-time service to participate in full scholarships for their dependent children at other TEP colleges and universities around the country.

SAVI (Student Loan Forgiveness Assistance Program)

Employees have access to a robust solution that helps find the best federal repayment and forgiveness programs for their financial situation. Brought to you through TIAA and Savi, this tool not only helps strengthen your financial footing in the short-term, it also positions you for student loan forgiveness. At no cost, Savi helps cap your payment based on your income and family size, free up funds to direct towards other financial goals, remove the complexities of forgiveness and puts the process on auto-pilot.

Coastline EAP

The University provides a confidential assessment and referral service to all regular employees. It is accessed through a toll-free number, (800) 445-1195, and can assist with calls concerning marital/family problems, alcohol/drug dependency, legal/financial problems, emotional distress, relationship issues and more.

Flexible Spending Plan

Voya/Benefit Strategies

The dependent care reimbursement plan allows employees to obtain reimbursement for qualified expenses related to the care of a child under 12, the elderly or incapacitated dependents. Employees may tax shelter up to $5,000 per year. The medical care reimbursement plan allows unreimbursed medical expenses such as copays, eyeglasses, and deductibles to be paid with tax-free dollars. For 2024, employees can tax shelter up to $3,200.

Supplemental Insurance

AFLAC

Employees working a minimum of 20 hours per week may purchase, on a pre-tax basis, supplemental cancer, critical care, hospital and/or personal accident insurance. Employees are eligible on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment.

Long-Term Care

Self-Service Relocation Assistance

Sterling Lexicon

Sterling Lexicon provides all newly hired employees with access to a self-service relocation assistance portal. Features and benefits include, but are not limited to: scheduling a free virtual move survey, pricing quotes from various moving companies, move checklist and helpful tips and recommendations. Pet Insurance with ASPCA

Employees can receive discounts on pet insurance and customize a quote to fit their pet’s unique needs. Accident-only coverage and preventative care coverage is also available as an add on. You're free to visit any vet, specialist or emergency clinic you want and you can choose to receive reimbursements by direct deposit or mail.
